A new tenant under my shed
We knew that a skunk had moved in the area about 3-4 weeks ago but the smell never came back and we thought that it had moved on. Yesterday, while I was reading in the backyard, it came out to smell the roses (litterally) and we discovered that it had established a burrow under our shed.
I initially wanted to find ways to frighten it away but it looks like the girls have outvoted me. More specifically they want me to make sure that she isn't a female since, at this time of the year, her youngs would be too small to run away.
[update] We found an excellent page by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies with suggestions on how to deal with this "problem". For now at least, there is nothing we can do until the little ones come out.
