Capturing the new moon

With our trip to Thailand having been posponed (even before the tsunami) and flights to Morroco being too expensive, we finally settled on a return trip to Costa Rica. This time we'll be traveling with the girls for 16 days during the green (i.e. sometime rainy) season. I really don't mind cloudy skies since I have discovered that these are the best light conditions for forest photography. I'll certainly remember to bring a full-size tripod, jungles are surprisingly dark. We'll revisit old favorites, especially the area around the Arenal volcano, and discover new ones (Poas volcano and Manuel Antonio Park).

While going back through the images of that last trip, I realized that this shot also captured the first day of the new moon. I remember how, the next day, we really got a kick out of seeing it plunging straight down. You don't see that at our high latitudes.
