The Parasol
We spent our first day in Oahu familiarizing ourselves with the local geography which includes almost a dozen beaches and coves. Closest to our house is Shark's Cove, the second best snorkeling site on the island. At this early hour, only a single sunbather was present but this was not to last since this is Independence Day weekend. By mid-morning the place was packed. You'd have to assume that what they saw under the water was worth the rocky surroundings.
Ultimately we spent most of the morning at the neighboring Three Tables Beach. The snorkeling there is not reputed to be as good as Shark's Cove but nevertheless it was the best we've ever seen. We decided on this site because you could enter the water from a sandy beach and then swim to the rocks. A definite plus since the girls haven't used their equipment in more than a year and we wanted them to get some practice in preparation for today's cruise.
