You two are going back to Hawaii
I am not a superstitious man but this is downright freaky. While snorkeling in Waimea Bay last summer, I spotted this melon-sized black rock and decided to bring it home with us. I was aware of an old legend which stated that removing Hawaiian rocks from their island is bad mojo but, technically, it wasn't on the island.
Since our return my luck has been terrible, especially professionally. After I got yet another piece of bad news, I said to Christiane that I was thinking about shipping the black rock back to Hawaii, anything to get back in the groove. My wife, also a scientist, replied that I was acting like an idiot. I had to drive our daughter to her dance class so I suggested that she google the subject and left.
She called me back on my cell while I was on the way back. "Andre, you're putting that darn thing in a box and you're shipping it right now" she said. She had googled "curse rock hawaii" and picked a random link on the result page. On that page was a picture of my very own hand picking up a rock from the beach at Ka'aena Point. I'll assume that this site bought the rights from a microstock agency but that's beside the point.
I had completely forgotten that I didn't bring back just one rock but two. Fate could not have provided us with a clearer sign if the skies had opened up and an angel flown down from the heavens to beat my head into a bloody pulp with a Louisville Slugger.
After such a coincidence, there was nothing else for us to do than to send those cursed rocks back to Oahu.
