Fuck you Wilma
Cancun might be nothing more than a big tropical Disneyland but Isla Mujeres is the real thing. Tourism is important but it's far from the only thing. The hotels are smaller, everything moves more slowly and many people still make a living from fishing and the local navy base. A quiet and peaceful place where the best way to move around is with a golf cart.
All of these images were taken in the northern end of the island, which can't be more that four feet above sea level...no match for the 20 feet storm surge of Hurricane Wilma which could reach Category 5 just before landfall.
