St-Peters Obelisk vatican

St-Peter's Obelisk

Going back to Europe again. This time I am flying out to Dresden, Germany, for a conference on Systems Biology.

The funny thing is how unstressed and unworried I am about this trip. I choose to attend this conference because I am interested in learning more about this field but I am not presenting any of my work. My objective is to find ideas and, especially, inspiration for my next research grant application.

Even the city itself hold little appeal to me, I actually though that it was located in the Ruhr Valley instead of the former East Germany. There isn't anything there that I absolutely have to see during the three half days that I won't be spending in the Kulturpalast. Although I am quite sure that I will get to sample some very nice museums and reconstructed architecture (the Americans and British flattened everything in '45), there isn't anything out there that was on my list of things to see before I die. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, I didn't expect much from Stockholm either but the Vasa blew me away.

Actually I am worried about one thing, I'll have to transfer through Frankfurt Airport and I hate that place with the fire of a thousand suns.
