Doing what we like
Whenever I retire (or die), there will certainly be a line or two written about the paper that came out yesterday in a sneak peek of the new journal PLoS-Genetics. I was lucky enough to lead an international group of researchers that identified and described every one of the 6354 genes encoded in the DNA of a major fungal pathogen called Candida albicans.
What's even cooler is the fact that the biggest achievement of my scientific career is being published under a Creative Commons Attribution License which means that anybody can download it (2.5 MB pdf file), although it is not an easy read for the uninitiated. They'll have the whole thing in html once the first issue comes out in July.
