Almost lost
For about three hours yesterday, I was completely freaking out. It was my photoblog's 4th birthday but, when I tried to visit it late in the afternoon, I ended up at a link farm. It also meant that my personal e-mail account was inaccessible.
Everything indicated that my domain name had been stolen and calls to my hosting company went unanswered. Did they forget to send in my renewal request or did did somebody fake a change of host request? Whatever it was, the more I read about domain stealing the more I worried that this state of affairs would remain for at least several weeks.
I was somewhat reassured by the fact that my name was still listed as the owner in the whois database and that not all of my friends on Twitter and Facebook were seeing the same thing. My well-connected cousin Sebastien was especially helpful.
In the end, the fact that you can read these lines is an obvious indication that the problem has been resolved but I have yet to receive a satisfactory explanation from my hosting company.
