Twilight on a life well lived (Day 7)

He's almost gone.

Last Friday, we learned that my grandfather was suffering from an intestinal blockage. Since his quality of life had deteriorated significantly in his waning years, he did not want to go through surgery and refused all further medical treatment, including intravenous feeding. When I started this "twilight tribute", we didn't expect him to last more than 48-72 hours. He sure showed us.

But a 90 year-old body can only endure for so long. He has now lapsed into a semi-coma and his respiration rate is down to 5 per minute.

[edit1] I called the house but nobody answered 8-0. I subsequently learned that an onset of respiratory distress got everybody to the center. The situation has been resolved and the wait continues.

[edit2] Our high-speed connection at home is flaking out (60% packet loss). The Videotron people say that our signal is weak and will come over on Tuesday. I'll see if it's something as stupid as a loose cable.

[edit3] I solved the problem by cutting tree branches that were touching the cable. Turns out the internet is more sensitive than tv to this kind of interference. Go figure...
