"Made in China"
I'm always on the lookout for good photography expositions in Montreal but I haven't had much luck lately. Either I don't read the right blogs/newspapers or I don't know the right people. That changed recently when I learned from JoBlog that Jean-Francois Leblanc is holding a large exposition entitled Made in China at La Maison de la Culture on the corner of Frontenac and Ontario East.
Boy was that worth the detour! Many of these breathtaking images were taken in a mountainous and foggy countryside while others illustrate an ever changing Shangai where the construction crane appears to be the national tree. Of note, fog and/or smog were omnipresent and not once did I notice a blue sky. Nervertheless, color was everywhere. It is also an excellent occasion to see how many folded cardboard boxes can fit on a bicycle.
A piece of advice, bring an iPod. The exibit next door is extremely noisy, annoying and completely breaks the mood. More than anything it encouraged me to treat the "no photography" sign with the same amount of respect as the one prohibiting "noisy" cell phones ;-)
