Lachine Rapids

It is said that every great city is an accident of geography. A narrowing of the St-Laurence river created this major navigation obstacle that, for decades, prevented further colonization of the continent. Montreal's "raison d'etre" was thus to serve as a transition point between Europe and the Great Lakes.

While reading vu d'ici, I heard about Metroblogging Montreal, part of a group of city-specific community weblogs. A nice concept that now counts yours truly as one of its contributors.
