Improving on the original

It's funny to see how two people can take the same RAW image and create completely different effect. OK maybe no so different, both make me shiver.

To see the original, go back to yesterday's entry. Shooting in RAW may be a lot more work, but the level of customization definitively makes up for it. There is currently a neat article on the subject in The Luminous Landscape.

Here is how Jasper did this:
I wanted to open it in Capture One, but for some reason it didn't recognize it. So I chose Photoshop CS. I used the RAW converter for the initial toning by playing around with the temperature and tint. I used the following settings: Temperature 2000 - Tint +150. As you can see these are pretty extreme. For the other settings i chose: Exposure +1.2 - shadows 5 - brightness 54 - contrast +70 - saturation +57.
The extreme temperature and tint caused some noise, so i decided to smoothen it out using neat image to reduce it. I used the auto settings for this one. Then I cropped it and then used the Unsharp Mask feature to sharpen it before resizing. The setting were probably something like: amount 30% - redius 10 pixels - threshold 0 levels. Then resized it to 600px in width to fit your site and used the unsharp mask again with the following settings: amount 100% - radius 0,3 pixels and threshold 0 levels.
