Comet McNaught
As I wrote yesterday in Metroblogging Montreal, I am quite pissed at the mainstream media for not informing us that a comet has been visible to the naked eye for the past 4 days...even in daylight! Fortunately, after climbing on the roof of our house, we were able to catch a brief glimpse of her on our binoculars, just as she was slipping behind the twilight clouds. She will be closest to the sun sometimes today, after that she will only be visible from the Southern Hemisphere.
My attempts to get a good photograph were not as successful since my zoom only goes up to 85mm. The head was only a few pixels wide and I had to convert it to grayscale in order to get enough contrast. Most of the good shots on Flickr were taken with at least a 500mm and when she was further away from the horizon.
But at least I got her.
