Safia

Sophie

Last night we returned to La Couscoussiere d'Ali Baba, in part because I was asked to produce some new pictures for their web page.

The best way to photograph belly dancers in a dimly-lit restaurant is to use a fairly low shutter speed (1/10 sec) to capture the background and to freeze part of the image with a late-activating flash. Cranking up the ISO to 800 also helps, especially for images destined to be published on the web.

I got really lucky with this shot of my sister Sophie. I love how the lanterns ended up framing her body.
