Six degrees of separation: A childhood friend was one day away from leaving for a beach resort on the East coast of Sri Lanka. In our case, we were supposed to spend three weeks in Thailand (including the affected islands) but the trip had to be posponed for medical reasons.
[edit] My wife has just found out that three of the hotels where we had reservations are gone with significant loss of life.
