The ones that got away
Every fisherman has a story about the one that got away but my brother now has an even better version. Even though the weather on Saturday was far from optimal, he managed to catch first a smallmouth bass and then a very large and very feisty water velociraptor pike. Both ended up tied to a chain on the back of the boat.
Shortly afterward, as we were moving to another part of the lake, I heard them struggle and then a small ping. That $2.95 piece of shit chain had broken off.
Remember that old movie cliche where two prisoners, one black and the other white, manage to escape but remain attached to each other with handcuffs? Somewhere in that lake, a bass and a pike are driving each other's crazy and desperately trying to find a pair of bolt cutters.
